                    Social Media Policy

This policy outlines our approach to official social media use by employees, and public participation in our social media channels.

In line with our organisational values, these five values govern the use of our official social media channels by our employees:

                    • Integrity – employees should be open, honest and reliable when using social media, conducting activities professionally and ethically.
                    • Courage – employees should have the courage to use social media as a way of engaging with our audiences, where appropriate.
                    • Accountability – employees should take personal accountability for what they say and do while using social media.
                    • Respect – employees should respect the people they communicate with through social media, valuing different opinions and building relationships.
                    • Excellence – employees should aim to improve their performance by using social media, listening to their audience and engaging with them.

Social media use must also adhere to the City of Melbourne’s employee code of conduct.

                    Moderation of public comments

We actively seek ideas, questions, complaints and feedback from the public. We encourage open conversation and debate, but expect participants to behave in a respectful manner.

We reserves the right to delete comments that are:

                    • knowingly false or mischievous complaints or statements about individuals, companies or the government
                    • misleading, obscene, off-topic, sexist, racist or spam
                    • promotional or commercial in nature
                    • unlawful or incite others to break the law
                    • defamatory or harassing of our employees, volunteers or the participants in our channels
                    • information that may compromise the safety or security of the public
                    • repetitive posts copied and pasted or duplicated by single or multiple users
                    • any other inappropriate content or comments as determined by City of Melbourne.
