City of Melbourne plays a major role in shaping the city through strategic urban planning and our capital works program. We plan, deliver and partner on projects that support the city's social, cultural and economic life, and have oversight of many of the major infrastructure projects transforming the city such as Metro Tunnel and the Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal Program.
Our planning and building services provide assistance and advice about construction and land use in the municipality. We assess planning applications, and administer and enforce the Melbourne Planning Scheme, which controls land use and development within the City of Melbourne.
The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future.
