Register for email rates

When you register for email rates, you will only receive your rates notices via email. Rates notices will not be posted to you. This is recommended for ratepayers with one property only. You will not be able to access archived rates notices.  

To receive your rates notices via email, you will need to register via eRatesOpens in new tab:

From the eRates registration page, select Register email.  

Enter your name and assessment number exactly as it appears on your rates notice, including the spaces in your assessment number.


Creating an eRates account  

When you create an account, you'll have access to our eRates  portal, including access to archived and current year's rates notices. Creating an account is recommended for ratepayers with multiple assessments that can be added to their account.  

To view rate notices online, you'll need to create an account with eRatesOpens in new tab. To register: 

  1. Go to the eRates Opens in new tab registration page and select Create account.  
  2. After you have created your account, you'll need to log in and add your property(s).  
  3. Proceed to add property and fill in your details:  
  • Enter your name exactly as it appears on your rates notice
  • Enter the assessment number exactly as it appears on your rates notice, including spaces.
  1. Log in to eRatesOpens in new tab and select Your Profile from the menu to view or update your registered details.
  2. To change your email address, type the new email in Email Address field and select Save Changes.
  3. A pop-up box will appear. Re-enter the email address to confirm the correct spelling and select Confirm
  4. An email with the subject line 'City of Melbourne Email Verification' will then be sent to the updated email address. 
  5. Click on the blue Confirm Email button.   
  6. Once confirmed, you can log in to eRatesOpens in new tab with your updated email address and existing password. 



Yes, but you’ll have to contact us before commencing the registration process. Please email and we'll send you an invitation to sign up for this service.

Once you have received the invitation email, you can sign up at eRates Opens in new tab using the Managing agents option

Existing eRates account holders can access previous notices in their eRatesOpens in new tab account. If you’re not an existing account holder or don't want to create an account, please contact us

If you’re selling your property, you’ll need to apply for a Land Information Certificate to assist with settlement. 

The certificate provides provides information about valuations of the property, rates charged and any arrears or interest.

If you believe the valuation and rates notice are not in line with market value, you can lodge an objection.
