                    Family Band (5+ years)

                    What kind of a family band is yours?

                    Use everyday items around your home – like drinking glasses, plastic containers, chop sticks and straws – to make instruments. Then be inspired by your favourite music genre to compose your own song. 

                    Choose a name for your band name and then perform for yourself at home. Rock on fam bam!!

                    Museum (6+ years) 

                    Homemade exhibits comprising collected leaves, seeds and other specimens with handwritten labels

                    Create a museum exhibition at home.

                    Head off outside on an exhibition expedition to collect some natural specimens (or find interesting things around the house). 

                    Then do some scientific drawings of your specimens and get them ready for display at your… grand exhibition opening!

                    Little Wing Puppets (5+ years)

                    Make a bird puppet to star in your show. 

                    Make a simple bird puppet using paper and easily accessible materials.

                    Then give your bird a name and a backstory… so they can star in your show!

                    Haunted Home (6+ years)

                    Compose your own scary music using sounds from your house.

                    Explore all the creepy sounds your house can make. Look for squeaking or slamming doors, creaking floor-boards, scratching, rustling, brushing, fluttering or slapping sounds, and others. Some might occur as part of a normal day’s activities, but others you might invent. Don’t forget vocal sounds – sometimes these are the scariest of all!

                    A Senspirational Play (5+ years)

                    An arrangement of aromatic items including cinnamon sticks, a rosemary stalk, vanilla bean, slice of lemon and raisins

                    Use your senses as the inspiration to make a dramatic play. 

                    Learn how to use your senses of touch, smell and taste as a starting point for inventing stories – as you match them with characters, places and events. 

                    Could the feel of a pine cone suggest a Park Ranger? Or the smell of incense suggest a fortune teller’s table? And the taste of a biscuit represent the school fete?

                    Play with different techniques to come up with your own play to practice and perform.

                    Stories, Stories, Stories (5+ years)

                    Explore lots of ways to write stories with some simple tips and tricks.

                    Use three different techniques to write stories: taking inspiration from a household object, a character with a very silly name or your own drawings. 

                    And don’t forget to bring your stories to life by reading them aloud.
