The Executive Leadership Team is appointed by the CEO and assists in the overall leadership and governance of the organisation. In particular it:
- provides impartial and professional advice to Council
- implements Council decisions efficiently and effectively
- leads the organisation and its people, including enhancing collaboration and providing stewardship for the future
- manages ongoing programs and services
- supports good local governance in the community
- builds partnerships and advocates in the best interests of the community, consistent with Council priorities.

Organisational structure
The Office of the CEO liaises with the offices of the lord mayor and deputy lord mayor, councillors, City of Melbourne executives, Victorian Government and key community and corporate stakeholders to ensure Council's strategic objectives are met using all available resources.
The Office of the Lord Mayor provides high-level advisory and administrative support services for the operation of the offices of the lord mayor and deputy lord mayor.
The chief of staff, along with support staff, works closely with the offices of the CEO, councillor support, Executive Leadership Team and managers to ensure an effective relationship exists to support the functionality of the Council.
