Lodgement of building permits and documentation

The lodgement of a Section 80 notification and Section 30 documentation must be submitted to Council by the relevant building surveyor (RBS) within 7 days of appointment and a building permit being issued.

A Certificate of Final Inspection (CFI) or an Occupancy Permits (OP) must also be submitted along with any amendments or variations to a building permit.

Section 80 notification

A Section 80 is required to be submitted to Council within 7 days of a Private Building Surveyor (PBS) accepting an appointment to issue a building permit for building works. Please ensure you include a detailed description of the works.

Section 30 documentation

The Relevant Building Surveyor (RBS) must within 7 days lodge any building permit issued including a copy of that building permit, and other documents lodged with the application for that permit.

For staged building permits, any documents relating to subsequent stages will still need to be submitted via email to building@melbourne.vic.gov.au.

Certificate of Final Inspection (CFI) and Occupancy Permits (OP)

Depending on the works, the Relevant Building Surveyor (RBS) may issue a Certificate of Final Inspection (CFI) or an Occupancy Permit (OP). It is an offence under the Building Act 1993 to occupy a building prior to receiving an OP.

Building Permits Amendments (PBA), Building Permits Variations (BPV) and Other Building permits (BPO)
