The iconic indoor pool at Melbourne City Baths has four lanes for both leisure and fitness. Typically, there are three lap lanes and one leisure lane available. The below availability should be used as a guide only and may not reflect facility bookings, additional classes or holiday opening hours.

We offer swimming lessons for every age group, with the option to learn in a small group environment or in a private lesson setting. During the school holidays we also offer an intensive swimming lesson program.

[Melbourne City Baths male staff member] Research conducted by Royal Life Saving Australia Society has shown that over the past 25 years 35 drowning deaths have
occurred in public swimming pools.
[Melbourne City Baths female staff member] Five out of seven drownings of children under the age of 12 occur when there is inadequate supervision from the parents.
[Melbourne City Baths male staff member] In order to help parents supervise their children and understand their responsibilities, the City of Melbourne has adopted the Watch Around Water wristband identifying system.
[Melbourne City Baths female staff member] If you access the City of Melbourne facility with a child under the age of 12 they will receive a wristband.
[Melbourne City Baths male staff member] 0 to 4 year olds need to be wearing a pink wristband this means that they need to be within arm's range of a parent or guardia. Generally this will require the parent or guardian to be in the water with the child.
[Melbourne City Baths female staff member] Children ages 5 to 12 will need to wear a yellow wristband. This means that the parent must always keep the child in sight and be actively supervising at all times.
[Melbourne City Baths male staff member] The guardian must be of the age of 17 or older.
[Melbourne City Baths female staff member] Always remember that parents need to supervise and lifeguards save lives.

Watch Around Water requirements
- Child must be accompanied into the centre and the water by a responsible person aged 17 years or older.
- Child must stay within arm’s reach whilst in the water, generally the responsible person will need to be in the water themselves.
- Child must wear a pink wristband identifying them as being aged under five years.
- The responsible person cannot exceed a supervision ratio of two children under five years.
- Child must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible person aged 17 years or older.
- Child must be constantly and actively supervised.
- Child must wear a yellow wristband identifying them as aged between five and 12 years.
- The responsible supervising person must position themselves to have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child.
- The responsible person cannot exceed a supervision ratio of four children under 12 years.
Parents or guardians must use their knowledge of an individual child’s swimming ability and general development to determine the level of accompaniment required.
Children of any age will be removed from the water if the lifeguard believes they are unsafe.
