Advocacy

Learn how we work in partnership to be a city of possibility.

Our ambitious goals for the City of Melbourne cannot be achieved by one organisation alone, and some issues are outside of our direct control as a local government.

That’s why we engage, mobilise and collaborate with all levels of government, the private sector and the community to achieve our collective vision.

Through advocacy and partnership, we seek policy commitments, funding and action from decision-makers. This helps us deliver on the projects and priorities that make Melbourne a liveable, prosperous, inclusive and resilient place to live, work, study and play.

What we are advocating for:

  • Melbourne as a place for people: Building liveable, inclusive, sustainable communities where everyone has access to high-quality housing, transport connections and community infrastructure
  • Melbourne as a place for investment: Positioning Melbourne as a place for investment and innovation, boosting employment opportunities and precinct connection
  • Melbourne as a place that delivers for the community: Empowering the City of Melbourne to deliver facilities, open space and infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community

our acknowledgement

  • Torres Strait Islander Flag
  • Aboriginal People Flag

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future.
