The Green Our City Strategic Action Plan aims to improve the quality and quantity of green roofs and vertical greening in Melbourne, through working with industry and the private sector.

Green infrastructure is vital to support amenity, liveability and help the city adapt to climate change. Yet our growing population and increasingly built-up urban space means that providing new green space in the city is increasingly difficult.

The City of Melbourne owns less than one third of the city’s land area, with more than two thirds owned by residents, businesses or the Victorian Government.

The four-year action plan (2017 to 2021) focuses on increasing private sector participation in greening our city.

                    Key actions:

                    • helping develop industry standards for green roofs and vertical greening
                    • developing partnerships with the private sector to co-fund greening through the Urban Forest Fund
                    • making relevant information and data available to the public
                    • introducing changes to the planning scheme to encouraging more green infrastructure.
