Event volunteers

Volunteers play a vital role in City of Melbourne’s Premier Events.

Our volunteers' energy and enthusiasm for events adds to Melbourne’s reputation as an events city. They are often the first faces event patrons meet on-site and are tasked with providing a friendly welcome to our community.

The City of Melbourne’s Premier Event branch conducts multiple volunteer recruitments per year to service the event season.

What's involved?

Volunteers join the wider team to deliver:

  • Moomba Festival
  • Firelight Festival
  • Now or Never
  • Melbourne Fashion Week.

In each event volunteers carry out a range of roles including:

  • front of house customer service
  • behind the scenes support
  • activations and artist support.

Yes, training is provided to all volunteers from induction to ongoing on-the-job instruction.

Volunteers must complete all components of training successfully before they become an official City of Melbourne events volunteer.

Each event has a different time commitment as the length of the event varies.

Volunteer shifts are typically four hours in length. Most events require volunteers to commit to two shifts per event, however, as our events have a limited run, we encourage volunteers to attend as many shifts as they can.

Volunteers are occasionally asked to assist with additional shifts when there is a shortfall in the volunteer roster.

Volunteers are supplied with some uniform items, including a shirt and lanyard. Seasonal uniforms such as wide-brimmed hats or beanies are also supplied for selected events.

Volunteers wear their own trousers or skirts and footwear.
