City of Melbourne has redeveloped the technology behind the Census of Land Use and Employment (CLUE), modernising the current CLUE system and method and making it available to all Australian local governments.

                    The redeveloped technology platform includes:

                    • a multi-tenanted, cloud-based database
                    • a mobile digital data collection technology
                    • user friendly interactive reporting dashboards.

The project was funded by an Australian Government Smart Cities and Suburbs Grant with matching co-contributions from the City of Melbourne and Inner Melbourne Action Plan (IMAP) councils.

CLUE is used to support and deliver better outcomes for a number of activities including:

                    • economic development
                    • stakeholder engagement
                    • land use and infrastructure planning, for example structure plans
                    • evaluating policy outcomes, for example late night business growth; and
                    • development of advanced analytics models to understand city functions for example estimating commercial waste generation or freight transport demand.
