Each year, City of Melbourne delivers the National Immunisation Program for Victoria to high school students in year 7 and 10 across City of Melbourne.

These vaccines are all free. Eligibility refers to people who have or are eligible for a Medicare card.  These vaccines are given to this age group as it is when the vaccines are most effective and will provide protection before possible exposure to disease.

                    Year 7s are vaccinated with:

                    • Gardasil - Human Papillomavirus (HPV) – single dose
                    • Boostrix - Diphtheria-Tetanus-Whooping Cough – single dose

                    Year 10s are vaccinated with:

                    • Nimenrix -Meningococcal ACWY- single dose

                    Vaccination apprehension from your child

If your child has questions or is reluctant about getting vaccinated, the Cancer Council Victoria video HPV vaccination for teenagers may be helpful.

                    Missed vaccinations

If a child was absent on their immunisation day or doesn’t attend mainstream school, there are several options to get them up to date with their vaccinations.

                    • Contact City of Melbourne to organise an appointment at a Community Immunisation session.
These are run frequently across the municipality. Visit Getting immunised in the City of  Melbourne to view available sessions, locations, dates and times, then follow the prompts to book via the online form.
                    • Contact your GP to make a vaccination appointment.
Please inform the GP of the required vaccines your child requires as not all doctors surgeries have vaccines on site. Please note that whilst these vaccines are free, you may incur a fee for the appointment.
                    • If you live outside of City of Melbourne, contact your own local council via their webpage or email to arrange an appointment.

If you have further questions regarding making appointments or to check your child is up to date with their immunisations. Please contact us via schools@melbourne.vic.gov.au or call 0417 219 089.
