Toy Library

City of Melbourne Libraries offers a free toy library service after taking over the operation of the former Melbourne Community Toy Libraries from July 2023.

Borrowing toys

The toy library collection offers a range of quality toys for ages 0 to 8 years that encourage play, help develop children's skills and imagination and support brain, muscle and language development.

Membership: adult or junior membership of City of Melbourne Libraries is required. Find out how to join.Opens in new tab

Borrowing limits: 3 items per membership.

Borrowing period: 3 weeks with 1 renewal.

Reservations: 3 items per membership. Reservations will be held for 2 weeks.

Check out the range of toys on our catalogueOpens in new tab or speak to one of our toy library staff who can assist with advice on selecting suitable toys for your child.

From September, a collection of toys to browse and borrow will be available from Library at The Dock. Until then, members can use toy library services at Carlton and North Melbourne or a limited click and collect service at Library at The Dock.

Toys can only be borrowed from and returned to the toy library locations at either The Chapel or Hotham Hub.

Click and collect items borrowed from Library at The Dock can be returned there.
