                    Future Melbourne Committee

                    The Future Melbourne Committee (FMC) is a special committee of the Council. It oversees the implementation of Council Plan strategies.
                    ​​​​​The Future Melbourne Committee is grouped into 13 portfolios being: Finance, Governance and Risk; City Planning; Heritage; Environment; Sustainable Building; City Transport, Infrastructure and Operations; City Activation; Creative Melbourne; Business and Global Opportunities; Small Business; Health, Wellbeing and Belonging; Aboriginal Melbourne and Education and Innovation.

                    The committee oversees the implementation of Council Plan strategies and activities contributing to achieving the goals of the 13 themes. The committee will:

                    • approve, or recommend to Council approval of, proposals for activities related to these goals
                    • approve, or recommend to Council approval of, expenditure of resources for activities related to these goals
                    • monitor the progress of activities in the Council Plan relevant to these goals.  

                    Meetings

                    There are two FMC meetings each month – refer to the schedule of meeting dates.

                    The Lord Mayor chairs the entire meeting with the exception of the City Planning segment which is chaired by the Deputy Lord Mayor.

                    The quorum for the committee is a majority of its members.

                    Governance Rules

                    ​​In accordance with the Local Government Act 2020, Council is required to have Governance Rules to govern the conduct of Council meetings and meetings of any delegated committee the Council may establish.

                      Councillor Le Lui is the Portfolio Lead and Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Reece is the Deputy Lead.

                      • planning scheme amendments (other than for heritage and sustainable building design)

                      Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Reece is the Portfolio Lead and will chair the City Planning segment of the FMC agenda.  Councillor Leppert is Deputy Lead and will chair the City Planning segment in Councillor Reece's absence.

                      Heritage portfolio

                      The primary responsibilities are:

                      Lord Mayor is the Portfolio Lead and Councillor Campbell is Deputy  Lead.
