Homes Melbourne

Every Melburnian deserves a safe place to sleep every night. Let’s make room for people experiencing homelessness and create safe, secure, affordable housing for all.

Recognising that the complexity and extent of the housing crisis needed a comprehensive, targeted response, we created Homes Melbourne in 2022 – a multi-disciplinary team committed to ending homelessness and increasing safe, secure, and affordable housing in our city.

Homes Melbourne is helping to solve the affordable housing crisis and create pathways out of homelessness – at pace and scale.

About Homes Melbourne

The Homes Melbourne team brings housing, homelessness and policy experts together to innovate, advocate and collaborate with partners across the housing sector.

We are working with governments, businesses, developers, funders, community housing organisations and the not-for-profit sector to deliver facilitate 6000 affordable homes and reduce homelessness in our city.

Every community member deserves access to safe, high-quality rental housing close to jobs and services. Research shows that for every $1 invested in affordable housing, the community benefit is $3. Investment in affordable housing is an investment in both essential infrastructure and people.

Draft Homelessness Strategy 2024-30

In our city and across the world, we are facing a housing and homelessness crisis. Visible homelessness, people sleeping rough on the streets, is just the tip of the iceberg. Many more women, children and families are sleeping in their cars, on other people’s couches and in severely overcrowded or temporary accommodation.

One way we are working to address this is through the development of a new Homelessness Strategy. Our vision is of an inclusive city where every person has a home and support to break the cycle of homelessness. Our strategy is underpinned by a robust evidence base and extensive engagement with people who have had a lived experience of homelessness.

Community consultation took place between February to April 2024, and we are currently collating our findings and applying them to the draft strategy.
