Delivering quality, sustainable areas to meet our changing population and cultural needs

Melbourne’s growth presents exciting opportunities as we move towards becoming Australia’s largest city by 2035.

City of Melbourne and its partners are managing this growth with smart planning and high-quality urban design, by activating nearly 400 hectares of land across three urban renewal projects: Arden, Macaulay and Fishermans Bend.

By revitalising underutilised spaces with affordable housing, open green spaces and busy shopping precincts, inner-city areas are being transformed into places people want to live, work and invest.

We’ve received extensive community feedback. People want to live in thriving neighbourhoods with vibrant streets, quality community facilities, and well-designed buildings. Appropriate heritage protections, accessibility and climate-ready considerations are also priorities.
