Volunteer roles include:
- International students: as part of our Student Welcome team to support the international student communities.
- Visitor Services: as part of our visitor services program, our volunteers help tourists and locals navigate the city.
- Libraries: as part of English Conversation Club, a free volunteer-led program at City of Melbourne Libraries.
- Gardens for Wildlife: volunteer garden guides who champion for wildlife in the city and help inspire Melburnians to create space for nature in their gardens.
- Premier events: various opportunities at our premier events including Moomba, Melbourne Fashion Week, Now or Never and Firelight Festival.

Yes. As a Child Safe Organisation, City of Melbourne requires all volunteers to have a valid Working with Children Check. These are available without charge when applying for a Volunteer Check.
Volunteers will be required to provide a passport photo when submitting at a participating Australia Post. Please visit Working with Children CheckOpens in new tab for further information.
If you have a current Victorian Institute of Teaching card, this can be accepted in place of a valid Working with Children Check.
Yes, all volunteers will be required to undergo a police check as part of the pre-engagement process. There is no cost to volunteers for this.

This may vary depending on the volunteer engagement, whether it is a one-time event or an ongoing opportunity. This will be communicated at the time of advertisement and we give our volunteers the opportunity to let us know their availability.
We recognise that many of our volunteers have other commitments and may only be available at certain times during the week. Our volunteer rosters are flexible, depending on the type of engagement. You may be required to work weekdays, weeknights, or on weekends subject to your availability and the engagement.
