                    City projects

                    City of Melbourne has oversight of many of the major infrastructure projects transforming the city such as Metro Tunnel and the Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal Program.

                    ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We also have direct responsibility for the design and delivery of an annual capital works portfolio with a total value of approximately $280 million per annum.

                    • Australia Wharf upgrades

                      City of Melbourne is enhancing Australia Wharf – providing a welcoming place for visitors to enjoy Docklands’ vibrant waterways.
                    • Bedford Street Pocket Park

                      Bigger and better open spaces are coming to Bedford and Courtney streets, with City of Melbourne commencing works on a new park that will include a playspace and activities area.
                    • Birrarung Trial Floating Wetlands

                      City of Melbourne has installed floating wetlands in the Yarra River as part of a trial funded by the Victorian Government.
                    • Boyd Village development (132 Kavanagh Street)

                      A new vibrant community village is being created in Southbank featuring affordable housing and community facilities, following an agreement between City of Melbourne and PDG Corporation.
                    • Childers Street irrigation

                      City of Melbourne is installing a new irrigation system in Childers Street, Kensington.
                    • City Road Master Plan

                      The City Road Master Plan was endorsed by the Future Melbourne Committee in June 2016. The master plan will transform City Road into a safe and welcoming place for everyone through a series of capital works projects.
                    • Dodds Street Linear Park

                      New green space is on the way for Southbank as we convert roadway into public open space in the heart of Melbourne’s arts precinct.
                    • Exhibition Street Theatre Precinct streetscape improvements

                      City of Melbourne is revitalising the live theatre district on Exhibition Street - giving thousands of theatre-goers more room to move.
                    • Footpath improvement program 2023-2024

                      We’re upgrading key footpaths across the city as part of our Major Streetscape Improvements Works program for 2023-24
                    • Gateway to GMH

                      We’re partnering with the Victorian Government on the planning, design and delivery of urban renewal in Fishermans Bend.
                    • Greenline Project

                      We’re transforming the north bank of the Yarra River – Birrarung into an unmissable, bucket-list destination for locals and visitors.
                    • Hardware Lane streetscape upgrade

                      One of Melbourne’s most iconic laneways is set for an upgrade.
                    • Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre redevelopment

                      The City of Melbourne is redeveloping the Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre located within JJ Holland Park to support the diverse needs of the community.
                    • Kensington pump station upgrade

                      City of Melbourne is increasing drainage capacity in Kensington by upgrading the pump station at Stubbs Street and Macaulay Road to better manage significant rain and flooding events.
                    • Little Lonsdale Street streetscape upgrade

                      We’re making it safer for people to move around Little Lonsdale Street with new pedestrian and road safety upgrades between Queen and Swanston streets.
