Project Night Justice

Everyone has the right to enjoy the city after dark.

Multiple people walk down the street in Chinatown, Melbourne, at night time.

Half of all women in Australia will experience sexual harassment in their lifetime. Trans women and the LGBTIQA+ community also experience high levels of sexual harassment, as well as unique forms of aggression relating to their gender or sexuality, such as ‘outing’ or ‘shaming.

We want women and trans and gender diverse people to feel safe, confident and welcome at night. This is why we’ve launched Project Night Justice, a collection of initiatives to improve night safety in the city, as well as a public sexual violence awareness campaignOpens in new tab in partnership with Crime Stoppers.

In November 2021, we held our first summit on night safety and have taken the findings from this event to create a new awareness campaign and launch a night safety charter for businesses.
