Registers for inspection

The City of Melbourne is required by law to collect and make public information about some of the councillors and council administration activities, roles and responsibilities. We also publish information that is not required by law as part of our commitment to transparent and open governance.

Statutory requirements

The Local Government Act 2020 (the Act) requires our CEO, councillors and any officers nominated by the CEO (or delegate) to complete Personal Interests Returns.

The CEO (or delegate) has the power to determine which Council staff are nominated to submit Personal Interests Returns based on the nature of an officer s job, including but not limited to their financial and other delegations.

Section 135 of the Act requires Council to publish a summary of the most recent Personal Interests Returns which have been lodged with Council.

Non-statutory requirements

As well as our statutory requirements, we make this information available.

Except for minutes that have been closed to the public under section 66 of the Local Government Act 2020, you can access the agendas for and minutes of:

  • ordinary and special meetings
  • delegated committee meetings that were established under section 63 of the Act.

Councillors are required to declare all conflicts of interest under sections 127 and 128 of the Local Government Act 2020

Information about contracts valued at:

  • $150,000 or more for the purchase of goods and services
  • $200,000 or more for the carrying out of works.

These contracts are not part of section 186(5) of the Act and were awarded without competitive processes.

Gift register capturing all council-related gifts, benefits or hospitality valued at more than $500 received and kept by councillors for the current Council term.

These reports contain information about purchase orders of $500,000 and over.

Information about the organisations and associations that we are members of, including all fees paid.

Visit the Property Lease Register for details of all property, finance and operating leases involving land, building, plant, computer equipment or vehicles entered into by the Council as lessor or lessee, including the name of the other party to the lease and the terms and value of the lease.
