How to pay a parking fine

You have 28 days to pay a parking fine after getting it. Failure to do so will result in further action and additional costs to you. Find out how to pay a fine and how to apply for a payment arrangement or extension.

Pay your parking fine

There are three payment options:

  • online
  • by phone
  • at the post office.

If you wish to pay the fine immediately, you can do this at the post office. The online and phone payment options are only available three days after the date of issue of your fine.

Parking fines must be paid in full. City of Melbourne does not accept part payments. If you need to request a payment arrangement or extension you can do so below.


Pay online

Online payments are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week commencing three days after the date of the fine. Payment is by Visa or Mastercard only.

To pay online you'll need to provide your issue number and vehicle registration as shown below, and enter the amount you are required to pay.

Pay by phone

​To pay by phone, call 1300 130 453. Visa or Mastercard only.

This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week commencing three days after the date of the fine.


Pay at the post office

Pay by cash, EFTPOS or cheque at any post office before the due date shown on the fine.

You can pay via this method as soon as you receive your fine.

Financial hardship

If you are experiencing serious financial or medical difficulties or sudden change in a situation such as loss of employment, we recommend you call us on 03 9658 9658, 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (public holidays excluded).

Payment arrangements and extensions

You can only apply for a payment arrangement or extension if you are the registered owner of the vehicle (with VicRoads) or the formally nominated driver of the vehicle.

There are three types of payment arrangements and extensions:

  • extending the due date of your payment
  • paying in instalments (if you are eligible) or
  • requesting a payment arrangement with Fines Victoria.

If you wish to apply for a payment arrangement or extension, you must complete an application before the due date or the fine will continue through the infringements process and additional costs may be added.

An extension of time to pay may be granted at the City of Melbourne’s discretion. You can apply for a payment extension online:

Please note: partial payments are not accepted. The full amount is required to finalise the matter.

You are automatically entitled to request to pay in instalments if you are the registered owner or formally nominated driver and have one of the following:

  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Seniors Card.

You must be the registered owner or formally nominated driver of the vehicle and provide a photocopy of your Centrelink card.

We are unable to offer a payment arrangement by instalment if you:

  • haven’t provided a copy with your application
  • are not the registered owner or nominated driver of the vehicle
  • have requested a review of your fine and are awaiting the outcome
  • have been issued with Notice of Final Demand.

You can request to pay in instalments if you meet the eligibility requirements above. Please have any supporting documentation ready before you start.

You may request the City of Melbourne refers your outstanding fine(s) to Fines Victoria to manage as part of a payment arrangement.

A payment arrangement allows you to pay one or more fines in monthly or fortnightly instalments.

In order for this to occur, you must have a have a current payment arrangement registered with Fines Victoria and be the registered owner or formally nominated driver of the vehicle.

You will also need to provide us with the following:

  • Payment arrangement number (given to you by Fines Victoria) 
  • Infringement number/s 
  • Full name 
  • Address 
  • Preferred contact number 
  • Email address.
