Make your business accessible

Find out how to make your business more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

Array

About 20 per cent of Victorians have a disability. If your premises are not accessible for all you may be missing out on significant numbers of potential customers.

Also, under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992Opens in new tab, your business is legally obliged to ensure ease of access for people of all abilities.

Our commitment

We provide opportunities to build understanding and awareness between the business and disability communities including:

  • round-table discussions
  • speakers' panels
  • business to business presentations
  • fact sheets and access updates
  • mystery customers and feedback.

Good Access Is Good Business

Our Good Access is Good Business program supports city businesses in meeting the legal and community expectations that all people have fair access to goods, services and opportunities.

Our series of Customer Access Checklists can help you to meet key access requirements, and are available for download on this page.

A report by Monash University identified that making your business more accessible has the potential to generate more revenue.

Accessibility is broader than structural changes such as ramps and wider aisles, it encompasses a range of things from training your staff on how to accommodate the needs of all people, the font you choose for your menus and website, how you arrange your product and where you place your signage.

If you’d like a copy of the Monash University report Economic Benefits of Universal, contact us.
