Healthcare support worker parking permits are required for licensed healthcare providers and their staff to carry out home visits.
The permit allows holders to park in residential parking permit zones, with the same allowances of a residential parking permit.
Medical practitioner parking permits are also available to medical practitioners who work at selected inner-city hospitals.
Permit holders can park in dedicated on-street parking areas near participating hospitals.
Eligibility
You can apply for this permit if your role at a registered organisation conducts approved healthcare-related home or community visits within the City of Melbourne during business hours.
A limit of 5 permits per organisation applies.
You can apply for this permit if you are a medical practitioner working at one of the participating hospitals:
- Epworth Freemasons
- The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital
- Mercy Private Hospital
- St Vincent's Hospital
Up to 3 vehicle registrations numbers can be nominated per permit.
We may verify the application with the participating hospital prior to issuing a permit.

Permits are valid only where indicated on parking signs and are valid from 7.30am to 7.00pm.
They are not valid in areas reserved for people with disabilities or in restricted locations such as:
- clearways
- loading zones
- no stopping areas
- taxi zones
- bus zones
- areas with 'authorised vehicles excepted' signs.

How to apply
Healthcare support worker parking permit required documents
You must provide a signed and dated letter on the service provider letterhead, confirming in-home care services.
All supporting documents must be current and issued within the last 3 months of receipt. Supporting documents must be signed by an authorised person.
Medical practitioner parking permit required documents
You must provide a signed and dated letter on the hospital letterhead dated within 3 months of application, confirming employment or regular attendance in a professional capacity.

Submit the completed form to healthparking@melbourne.vic.gov.au.
Fees and payments
Each healthcare support worker parking permit costs $255.
Each medical practitioner parking permit costs $522.
You can pay the fee via:
- credit card online
- EFTPOS available at Melbourne Town Hall only
Replacement permits
If your permit is lost, stolen, damaged or unusable, or you have changed your vehicle registration, you must submit a replacement permit request.
The replacement permit will be free of charge and have the same expiry date as the original permit, provided a copy of a police report is submitted with your request.
We take permit misuse very seriously and will cancel the original permit once a police report is received.

If a police report can’t be provided, you will need to submit a new application. The associated permit fee will apply and a new permit with a new expiry date will be issued.
In cases where a permit is damaged/rendered unusable or change of vehicle registration, the permit holder must return the permit to be replaced attached to the replacement request form (PDF 143KB) in person at Melbourne Town HallOpens in new tab, or send via post:
