Parking for buses and coaches

To help keep the city moving, we provide spaces in key locations across the CBD to help buses and coaches pick up and drop off passengers.

A bus, vans and a car stopped at a traffic light.

Spaces where buses can stop to pick up or drop off have signs that state ‘No Stopping, Buses stopping less than 15 minutes excepted’.

Buses are vehicles which seat more than 12 adults, including the driver.

Buses can also drop off and pick up passengers using:

  • ‘Loading Zone’ spaces
  • ‘No Parking’ areas (when stopping for less than 2 minutes).

Stopping for longer?

We provide spaces for longer stay bus and coach layover in designated areas outside the CBD.

Stop and park your bus or coach legally to pick up and drop off passengers, then drive to an area with longer parking time limits if you need to layover within the City of Melbourne.

We’ve made parking simpler and fairer in the CBD

Improvements to CBD parking include how and where buses and coaches can use our busy kerbside space:

  • Most spaces for the pick-up and drop-off of passengers in the Hoddle Grid are limited to 15 minutes.
  • We've provided more layover spaces for longer term parking outside of the CBD.

These improvements will not be ‘set and forget’. We’ll review the changes to make sure the new parking conditions are working well.

Changes to bus and coach parking areas are shown in the map below. The map shows the affected areas, indicating the number of bays impacted and the corresponding parking restrictions.
