As part of the City of Melbourne’s Green Our City Strategic Action Plan, we have developed reports on green roofs, walls and facades to help expand greening in the city.

The reports – Quantifying the Benefits of Green Infrastructure in Melbourne and the Valuing Green Guide – explain the role of green infrastructure in our city.

They focus on green roofs, walls and facades and how they impact water, temperature, biodiversity health and wellbeing, and collective benefits.

                    Valuing Green Guide

The Valuing Green Guide looks at the existing research on green roofs, walls and facades and their impact on:

                    • water, especially stormwater runoff and water quality
                    • temperature, especially the urban heat island and heatwaves
                    • biodiversity in the city
                    • human health and wellbeing.

It is a simplified version of Quantifying the Benefits of Green Infrastructure in Melbourne, which is a technical report.

Quantifying the Benefits of Green Infrastructure in Melbourne

The Quantifying the Benefits report was developed by Victoria University and The University of Melbourne. It examines the latest research on the benefits of green infrastructure and identifies further research needs.
