LGBTIQA+ services for older people

The City of Melbourne delivers events specifically for older LGBTIQA+ people.

An woman and an older man stand on the respective left and right sides of a cardboard cutout of an older woman in clothing from the early 20th century. The older woman and man wear rainbow sashes, and the cardboard cutout wears a rainbow plastic lei. Bunting with the LGBTIQA+ pride flag are hanging on the wall in the background.

To hear about these events, you can subscribe to our Melbourne: A Great Place to Age monthly newsletterOpens in new tab or check the programs and events section of our website.

Our neighbourhood centres and activity programs for older people are open to everyone and we offer a supportive and welcoming environment facilitated by trained staff.

We also welcome your feedback on what you would like to see offered further for LGBTIQA+ older people. Contact us on 03 9658 9190 or email healthyageing@melbourne.vic.gov.au

About acronyms

When referring to non-heterosexual populations and trans and gender diverse people, our preferred acronym is LGBTIQA+. This acronym stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer, questioning and asexual people.

We know there are many separate communities within this population, and when referring to LGBTIQA+ communities as a whole, we use this respectful collective address.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future.
