Occupy public space for construction or maintenance

If some of your construction or maintenance works will take place in public space, you must get a permit. This includes works on the footpath or road.

Permits required for following activities in a public space

Park or unload vehicles on the road (construction permit zone)

You can get a permit to stop, park, load or unload vehicles adjacent to your construction site. 

Use travel towers, scissor lifts or cherry pickers

You can get a permit to occupy space for motorised plant and equipment. This includes: travel towers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, boom lifts and elevated work platforms.

Use a crane in public space

You can get a permit to use or close a road for a crane. You must get this permit for part or full occupation of footpaths, roads or laneways.

Use a concrete pump in public space

You will need a permit to use a concrete pump in a public space. It is called a permit to occupy public space.

Use non-motorised plant and equipment in public space

You can get a permit to occupy space for non-motorised plant and equipment or a safety exclusion zone. This includes non-motorised mobile scaffolds, ladders or hand tools.

Place skips, bins or containers on the road

Find out when and where you can place a skip, bin or container, and apply for a permit online. We don’t supply skip bins for hire.

Extend or change a space occupation permit

You can apply for an extension of time or amend your existing space occupation permit.

Install hoardings, gantries or scaffolds on public land

You must get a permit for hoardings, gantries and scaffolds on a public road or footpath. This is called a temporary protective structure permit.
