Termites

Under the Building Regulations 2018, Council may designate areas within the municipality in which buildings are likely to be subject to attack by termites.

Termites, also known as white ants, can cause significant damage to timber structures. The Regulations require all new buildings, including alterations and extensions, built within designated termite-infested areas, to have management against termite attack. You should be mindful of the risks when building, renovating or purchasing.

Currently the City of Melbourne has some areas designated under the Building Regulations as likely to be subject to attack by termites, see the below map with designated area highlighted in brown. However home owners and buyers should be aware that termites may be present outside of this designated area, and may cause damage to structures throughout the municipality.
