Amendment C387: Hoddle Grid Heritage Review (permanents)

                    City street,
Amendment C387 (Hoddle Grid Heritage Permanent Controls) implements the recommendations of the Hoddle Grid Heritage Review March 2022 on a permanent basis.

                    About the amendment

The City of Melbourne recently completed the most comprehensive review of heritage buildings within the Hoddle Grid since the 1990s. The Hoddle Grid was laid out by surveyor Robert Hoddle in 1837 and remains the heart of Melbourne.

The Review was undertaken by independent heritage consultants and recommended that 126 individual places and five precincts be protected under heritage overlays.

Melburnians may be surprised that some of these buildings haven’t been granted heritage protection already. Many of these places were identified in previous heritage studies in 1985 and 1993, but were not afforded appropriate protection.

The City of Melbourne has prepared Planning Scheme Amendment C387 (permanent controls) to implement the recommendations of the review on a permanent basis.

                    Current status

Council resolved to adopt Amendment C387 with changes on Tuesday 3 May 2022. The Amendment has been. approved by the Minister for Planning and was gazetted on 9 September 2022.
