Ron is one of the most celebrated players in VFL and AFL history and has been officially recognised as a legend of the game.
His contribution to the city’s reputation as the nation’s sporting capital alongside his passion for the city and dedication to the community, he is one of Melbourne’s most popular characters and his energy and enthusiasm for life is contagious.
In late 2006, he became a Sport Australia Hall of Fame member.
The best player in the Under 17 International Rules Series is awarded the Ron Barassi Medal.
