In 1880 Abraham Benjamin opened his manufacturing and wholesale jewellery business in Carson Place, Melbourne and in so doing sowed the seeds of longevity for this Melbourne jewellery company.
Four generations have been involved in the family business and, over many decades, Benjamins expanded with branch offices in Adelaide and Perth and travelling salesmen covering the whole of Australia. Times change – 133 years after his great grandfather founded the company, David Benjamin is now the sole proprietor, with three loyal and long serving staff who, collectively, have been with the company for 60 years.
Benjamin’s clientele has remained loyal throughout the years, as evidenced by a 93 year old lady who recently caught a taxi into the city from Brighton just to have her watch battery changed at Benjamins. David Benjamin is recognised in this year’s Bronze category.
