                    Notice of making of the Environment Local Law 2024

                    ​​​​​Notice is given pursuant to section 74(4) of the 'Local Government Act 2020' that at its meeting on 27 February 2024, the Melbourne City Council (Council) resolved to make the 'Environment Local Law 2024' (the Local Law).

                    The Local Law will take effect from 4 April 2024.

                    The objectives of the Local Law are to:

                    1.    provide for the peace, order and good government of the City of Melbourne
                    2.    control, protect and conserve the environment
                    3.    control, protect and maintain the amenity of the municipality
                    4.    provide standards and conditions for certain activities in relation to the physical and visual environment within the municipality
                    5.    adopt, apply and ensure compliance with the Council’s Environment Management Plan.​

                    The existing Environment Local Law 2019 is revoked effective from 4 April 2024.

                    A copy of the Local Law can be obtained from the Council offi​​ces at Melbourne Town Hall Administration Building, Swanston Street, Melbourne during business hours, or can be viewed at melbourne.vic.gov.au​
