                    Notice of making of the Activities Local Law 2024

                    ​​​​Notice is given pursuant to section 74(4) of the 'Local Government Act 2020' that at its meeting on 27 February 2024, the Melbourne City Council (Council) resolved to make the 'Activities Local Law 2024' (the Local Law).

                    The Local Law will take effect from 4 April 2024.

                    The objectives of the Local Law are:

                    1.  provide for the peace, order and good government of the City of Melbourne

                    2. control noise, behaviour, liquor consumption, animals, smoking and vaping, spruiking, busking, advertising     sign, works and obstructions on roads, street trading, the use of toy vehicles and other activities

                    3. support greening of and biodiversity within the municipality and protect the use of public places and control activities in or near them

                    4. provide for safety in public places

                    5. regulate and manage the legitimate display of street art in or within view from a public place so as to facilitate a vibrant urban culture

                    6. provide for, control and manage the use of premises and vehicles in particular circumstances

                    7. regulate the number and manner of keeping of animals

                    8. control, prevent and abate nuisances.

                    The existing Activities Local Law 2019 is revoked effective from 4 April 2024.
