With more than 650,000 Chinese visitors to Victoria each year, we’re supporting local businesses to leverage key Chinese digital platforms and mobile payment options like WeChat and Alipay to better engage the local and international Chinese community.

Subscribe to our official WeChat account

City of Melbourne was the first Australian capital city to launch an official WeChat account. WeChat is China’s most popular social media platform, with more than one billion active users.

Our WeChat account helps us better engage the local and international Chinese community, providing regular updates on what's going on in Melbourne, including upcoming events and opportunities – particularly for business, students and visitors.

Explore Melbourne in Chinese. Search 'CityofMelb' or scan the QR code below in the WeChat app to subscribe.

If you’d like to be featured on our WeChat channel:

                    1. List your business on the City of Melbourne What’s On website to have it featured.
                    2. Contact us via global@melbourne.vic.gov.au to express your interest in additional promotion on WeChat. We prefer stories that update readers on what’s on in Melbourne, such as events, free activities and city activations.
                    3. Our WeChat team will consider your content and contact you for further information.

                    Cashless busking payment trial

Last year we led a successful trial to enable buskers to accept digital donations via Alipay. We’re now expanding Alipay and WeChat Pay for purchases at Cooks Cottage and Fitzroy Gardens Visitor Centre.

                    Alipay City Card

In partnership with Alipay we launched the Melbourne City Card to help Chinese visitors shop the city.

Embedded within the Alipay app, the city card uses geotargeting to offer Chinese visitors special discounts at key retail destinations – including Yarra River, Collins Street, Chinatown, Docklands, and Lonsdale Street. Download the Alipay app to shop the city.
