Tamara DiMattina has won the 2014 Melbourne Award for Contribution to Sustainability by an Individual.

Fueled by a personal passion to engage mainstream audiences in sustainable living, Tamara DiMattina assembled a crack team of professionals and businesses to work together on developing Australia’s most energy efficient home.

Tamara assembled a crack team of builders, architects, chefs, stylists, educators, collaborative consumption businesses, electric vehicle manufacturers, energy companies, designers, LEDs suppliers and green wall business to work together on developing Australia's most energy efficient home.

The project was dubbed 'The New Joneses', an energy efficient home built in the middle of Melbourne's Federation Square. The Channel 7 Sunrise weather team moved in to live like The New Joneses for a week, broadcasting daily stories to a national audience about simple changes we can all make to live sustainably, with the challenge to source everything they'd need second hand.

Opening its doors to the public; through school tours; media coverage and passers-by, Tamara used innovation, style and humour to encourage us to think about where our stuff comes from, where it goes, and the alternative options that are better for us, our wallets, our community and our planet.
