                    2017 50-plus years recipients

                    The 2017 50-plus years Lord Mayor's Commendations recognise small businesses that have operated continuously within the City of Melbourne for at least 50 years.

                    The following business proprietor was a 50-plus years recipient of the Lord Mayor's Commendations in 2017.

                    Purveyor of fine books for half a century 

                    Kay first launched her business in 1965, moving to the city in 1967. Her Collins Street store, Kay Craddock – Antiquarian Bookseller, opened in 1990. She was the first bookseller from the Southern Hemisphere to be elected to the committee of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers in 1996 and, four years later, became its first Australian (and female) President. 

                    Kay is co-founder of Melbourne Rare Book Week and is also co-founder of the Lord Mayor’s Commendations program. In 2007, she was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her contribution to bookselling internationally and to small business in the City of Melbourne.
