Community gardens are a unique type of public open space. They contribute to food production, improve local food security and enhance public health and wellbeing.

City of Melbourne has planted the first seed for community gardens across the city with the endorsement of its community garden policy and guide.

The community garden policy discusses City of Melbourne’s principles and intended outcomes for community gardening and how it fits with the Council Plan.

The guide is a companion document to the community gardens policy. It lays out how to develop and manage a community garden on land that the City of Melbourne owns and/or manages.
