The City of Melbourne’s Heritage Strategy sets out a plan to protect the city’s heritage buildings, places and objects. It has been developed to ensure the city's rich combination of traditions, memories, places and objects are identified and protected.

The current strategy outlines how we work with our key partners – the community, the Victorian Government and heritage groups – to ensure our story continues to be well understood, celebrated and protected. It helps sustain the diverse aspects of the city that are important to us, while leaving a legacy for future generations.

The Future Melbourne Committee endorsed the current strategy in April 2013 following a period of public consultation. In 2023/24 we will commence a review of this strategy, finalise the Parkville Heritage Review, and progress the Planning Scheme Amendments for the South Yarra and North Melbourne Heritage Reviews.
