We've created more green space in North Melbourne, delivering on our commitment to improve the look, feel and function for residents and business owners.

In line with the City of Melbourne’s Urban Forest Strategy and upgrades suggested by residents and business owners, we've made Provost Street and Little Provost Street greener by investing in:

                    • planting new street trees including flowering varieties, creating shade and visual impact
                    • providing permeable ground for natural rainwater absorption and filtration
                    • installing a new underground drainage system for Provost Street, which will prevent waterlogging of trees
                    • creating a wider nature strip to improve the pedestrian experience
                    • narrowing the road to reduce the number and speed of 'through-way’ vehicles
                    • introducing street trees to Little Provost Street, creating more shade and a leafy outlook.

Works commenced in February 2022 and were completed in early November 2022.

Community consultation was undertaken in September 2020 and the feedback was used to refine the design. The online survey and online session provided a platform for the community to discuss their ideas and have a conversation with expert staff from City of Melbourne, including landscape architects and arborists.

The changes will provide the current and future community with a more resilient, healthy and diverse urban environment.
