                    Road Safety Plan 2013–17

The City of Melbourne has developed the Road Safety Plan as a way to improve the safety of all road users, particularly pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

The City of Melbourne is Victoria’s busiest municipality for pedestrian and cycling activity, and it is getting busier. As the level of activity in the city increases, so will the potential for injuries, unless effective preventative measures are adopted.

The Road Safety Plan aims to:

                    • enhance the safety of all road users
                    • improve the care and attention of motorists towards pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
                    • improve the relationship among pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
                    • reduce motor vehicle speeds in areas of high pedestrian movement
                    • recognise the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists in street design.

The Road Safety Plan 2013–17 was endorsed by Council's Future Melbourne Committee on 2 July 2013.
