Melbourne retail strategy

The Melbourne Retail Strategy 2006:2012 is a joint initiative of the City of Melbourne and the Victorian State Government. The vision of the retail strategy is for Melbourne to be renowned globally as Australia's leading retail city with an unrivalled retail landscape acclaimed for its diversity and compelling experiences.
 
The strategy highlights the importance of developing Melbourne’s unique assets, including its network of laneways and its vibrant street life. The strategy also highlights the need for the city’s retail sector to continually innovate and respond to competitors.
