The Island Rug collection consists of 15 hand knotted rugs that represent Australian islands with a unique volcanic story.

The volcanic rock on each island is knotted in silk and designated a vivid fluoro colour to clearly communicate the explosive behaviour. Most of these islands are on the Eastern side of Australia as they are closer to existing and prehistoric magmatic arcs.

Each rug is hand knotted by artisans in Nepal. The wool and silk are hand died in Nepal to achieve a very specific colour spectrum.

This window display proposes to show 4 of the 15 rugs in the collection (Magnetic Island, Lord Howe Island, King Island and Maria Island).

Each rug is of similar size; the longest length being 220cm and the shortest width is 90cm.

Each rug would be fixed to the provided hanging system and suspended. They are presentable from front and back showing the immense time and effort that is put into hand knotting rugs.
