Amendment C394 (permanent controls) implements the recommendations of the Fishermans Bend Heritage Review.

                    About the amendment

The City of Melbourne has completed the Fishermans Bend Heritage Review (the Review), the most comprehensive review of heritage buildings and structures in Fishermans Bend to date. The independent study took a holistic view of twelve sites, carefully considering historic and contemporary heritage values from the perspective of 20th century industrial development. This Review applied a unique and in-depth approach to assessing heritage, which included site-inspections, historical research and meeting with landowners and staff as necessary to understand operational requirements of the industrial buildings that are still operational.

The Review recommends that three sites of local significance are protected by a Heritage Overlay in the Melbourne Planning Scheme, and two sites of state significance are nominated to the Victorian Heritage Register (VHR).

The City of Melbourne has prepared Planning Scheme Amendment C394 (permanent controls) to implement the recommendations of the Review.
