City of Melbourne is increasing drainage capacity in Kensington by upgrading the pump station at Stubbs Street and Macaulay Road to better manage significant rain and flooding events.

The upgrade works involve constructing new structures that can trap trash, pump water away from streets and into the Moonee Ponds creek, and internally upgrading the existing pump station building to house new pumps and control equipment, tripling the station's current capacity. We anticipate works will be completed by mid-2024.

                    What to expect

Construction hours will be from 7am to 4pm Monday to Friday, with some occasional night works to minimise road disruptions.

Temporary fencing will be installed around the work site for the duration of the project, however, access to businesses and residential properties will be maintained at all times

The Macaulay Road footpath between Stubbs St and the railway line will be closed from mid-January 2024 for 6 to 8 weeks for the main pump station upgrade works.

                    How could this affect you?

Pedestrian and vehicle access in sections of Stubbs Street and Macaulay Road will be restricted for short periods (including temporary diversions). Traffic management will be in place during these short diversions.

Some works such as excavation and assembly of parts may involve some noise.

For your safety, please observe any signs and instructions in place during this project.
