                    JJ Holland Park projects

                    JJ Holland Park Oval
JJ Holland Park on Kensington Road covers more than 10 hectares and is home to a number of facilities, ovals and other spaces.

Features of the multi-use park include a BMX track and skate park, picnic and barbecue areas, a children's playground, the Bill Vanina sports facilities, the Venny adventure playground and the Kensington Community and Recreation Centre.

A number of projects were completed in 2020, 2021 and early 2022.

                    Play space renewal

The playground at JJ Holland Park located near the corner of Altona and Ormond streets is popular with children and families.

Construction of a new play space to replace the existing equipment commenced in early 2021 and reopened in June 2021.

                    The renewed play space:

                    • provides more opportunities for diverse play
                    • better connects the space by improving pathways and integrating the existing basketball half-court
                    • increases social gathering spaces including lawns, seating and picnic facilities.

                    Oval resurfacing

Oval 2 in JJ Holland Park – bordered by Childers, Ormond and Altona streets – is well-used by a number of sporting groups year round. Works to install a new drainage and irrigation system were carried out in 2020 and the oval was reopened for the community and sporting clubs to use in November 2020.

                    Skate park

The skate park is located in the western corner of JJ Holland Park, adjacent to the BMX track and is an important meeting place for teenagers and young people.

In 2017, the City of Melbourne released its Skate Melbourne Plan 2017-2027. Action 2.6 of the plan prioritised the upgrade of existing facilities, specifically JJ Holland Park.

Community consultation on the redesign of the skate park took place from December 2019 to February 2020.

The skate park redesign consultation summary is now available on the Participate Melbourne website.

                    Synthetic turf renewal

The synthetic oval at JJ Holland Park – bordered by Kensington Road and Altona Street – is an important asset that is used by sporting clubs and the community throughout the year.

The scope of work for this project includes surface renewal, new line markings, installation of new drainage and improvements to the existing drainage network.

Renewal works commenced in early November 2021 and the oval reopened to the community and sporting clubs in March 2022.
