                    Mostlandian Embassy

Part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Mostlandia found a temporary outpost at the City Gallery during October 2006. The gallery became the site of the Mostlandian Embassy.

                    12 to 28 October 2006

The brainchild of four artist-citizens (The M.O.S.T.), Mostlandia (the place) can be best described as a psycho-geography, a liminal place that exists between spaces of being. Sound surreal? Well this is an imaginative response to the increasingly alienating and bureaucratised world of the 21st century.

The guiding tenets of Mostlandia are fun, intimacy, documentation and place. A manifestation of documentation, the Mostlandian Embassy was installed in the gallery to explore the inner workings and bureaucracy of the Mostlandian government. Like any embassy, it was a place for advice and refuge for its citizens, providing information and visas to citizens of Other Places.

But unlike most embassies, its bureaucratic processes were based on fun and social connections; its ambassadors even doled out the national high-five. The embassy was staffed by the M.O.S.T. and included interactive performance installations, commemorative trading cards and the national anthem of this most unusual of lands.

                    Curated by The M.O.S.T.

Mostlandian Embassy was curated by its founder-artists who work under the moniker The M.O.S.T. This Oregon-based quartet describe themselves as a social group with an artistic bent.

Events hosted by The M.O.S.T. include the Mostlandian Embassy, the Mostlandia Championships, the Mostlandian food cart and the website: www.mostlandia.com.
