                    Melbourne's Breweries

Melbourne's brewing industry sustained a presence in and around the city centre long into the 20th century. It outlasted other city factories and maintained industrial life among the retail and office workplaces of the city.

Brewing was Melbourne's first large-scale manufacturing industry. This exhibition outlined the history of the major brewers and their distinctive, purpose-built factories, some of which have recently been converted to other uses.

Melbourne Breweries: The First and Last Factories comprised photographs from the City of Melbourne Art and Heritage Collection, as well as brewery artefacts and signage loaned by Museum Victoria and the developers of the Victoria Brewery site. A feature of the exhibition was a brewing-process multimedia interactive on loan from the Powerhouse Museum.
