Smart Blocks has won the 2014 Melbourne Award for Contribution to Sustainability by a Community Organisation.

Smart Blocks helps apartment owners, building and strata managers successfully retrofit buildings to increase energy efficiency.

With more than 40 per cent of all energy worldwide being consumed in buildings and 24 per cent of Australian households living in strata dwellings, Smart Blocks equips owners and managers with tools to work collaboratively to implement projects in the common areas of their building.

The online project management toolkit steps participants through a process to register, identify relevant projects, build a business case, and prepare a case for implementation. Projects include lighting upgrades, heating and cooling, ventilation and solar options.

In a world where more people are opting to live in high rise apartments, this is an exciting opportunity to change the culture and current operating framework of high-density living. While Smart Blocks' core focus is on energy efficiency in shared areas, participating owners have been inspired to make upgrades to their own apartments, magnifying the impact of their program.
