Melbourne Queer Film Festival has won the 2013 Melbourne Award for Contribution to Profile by Community Organisation.

Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) screens the best in international and home-grown gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, intersex and queer (GLBTIQ) cinema, with over 150 films across 11 days.

The largest festival of its kind in Australia, MQFF attracts around 25,000 people to the heart of Melbourne every March for one of the highlights of the GLBTIQ cultural calendar. MQFF screens films that challenge, inform, entertain and most importantly provide an opportunity for GLBTIQ people to see themselves and their stories reflected on the big screen.

Every year MQFF, in partnership with the City of Melbourne, presents the City of Melbourne Emerging Filmmaker Award for the Best Australian Queer Film. This award continues to be a launching pad for many talented filmmakers to further their careers locally and overseas.

Last year’s winner, Grant Scicluna, went on to win the Iris Festival Prize in the United Kingdom for his film The Wilding, which gave him £25,000 towards his next short film.
