The Melbourne Heritage Restoration Fund (MHRF) aims to conserve and restore the heritage of the City of Melbourne for the enjoyment of the wider community.
The City of Melbourne and the State Government set up the MHRF in 1988 as a joint venture non-profit organisation.
It is coordinated by a committee of management with representation from the City of Melbourne, Heritage Victoria and the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).
The MHRF offers:
- restoration advice to property owners
- low-interest loans for professional services and construction related to restoration or reconstruction work
- grants for a proportion of restoration or reconstruction works
- grants to help develop Conservation Management Plans
Restoration and reconstruction can take many forms but always aims to return a house or building to its original state.
This could include the repair of an early cast iron fence, replacement of a modern tiled roof with original slates or even the reinstatement of a missing verandah.
